The Westonka Summer Institute
Global Immersion Experiences in China, Costa Rica & Peru!

Peruvian Child

Westonka Summer Institute takes learning beyond the classroom setting—
where students are immersed in a foreign culture through language, customs, family life, food, architecture, and history. And at the same time provides them with a global perspective and deeper understanding of Minnesota’s economic and environmental relationship to the rest of the world.

The World as Classroom

Three amazing programs
The Westonka SumChina boatsmer Institute offers three amazing, 2-week immersion programs.

China tackles the global business arena, Costa Rica explores a variety of sciences, while Peru researches ancient civilizations through archeology and history.

Designed to provide hands-on education, the Summer Institute sends students abroad with MWHS staff for a rich, applied-learning immersion into another culture.
Half-credit course includes:
Pre-departurCosta Rican Volcanoe: Pre-trip seminar classes cover the economy, history, culture, and perspectives about the host country.

Students participate in training programs, read pertinent literature, and study applicable topics prior to their trip.

On-site:  10-13 days in the country of
their program.

Re-entry: Course wrap-up, presentation, submission of a final project, and program evaluation, plus multiple opportunities to share what they have learned with other students, community members, and representatives from the Summer Institute program.
