Top 10 Winners
By Christy Keeley-Zachow

Sixth grade Grandview students in Mrs. Jessica Lunski’s and Ms. Katie Seehusen’s classes participated in the American Legion Essay Contest and wrote about, “What the American Flag Means to Me.” A committee from the American Legion 398 in Mound that included veterans, Blue Star moms, Post members, Unit Auxiliary members, Sons of the American Legion members, Westonka Beyond the Yellow Ribbon members, and community members reviewed each and every one of the submissions and chose their favorites.

Essays were published and distributed at the Memorial Day services in Mound. In addition, Sheridan Nygaard’s essay and Taylor Schultz’s essays were read at the Memorial Day services. The “Top 10” all received an American Flag with a post for their homes and some gift certificates from local businesses.
